Fractional CFO: planning and analysis first
The finance work investors test first is planning: whether the model holds, whether the budget follows the development plan, and how long the cash lasts if a milestone slips.
- 01 Financial model Driver-based, built from the development plan, refreshed with actuals each period.
- 02 Use of funds A milestone budget, with each line tied to the milestone it pays for.
- 03 Scenarios Base, delay and downside cases, with the cash low point and decision dates.
- 04 Cash forecast A 13-week cash forecast when cash is tight.
- 05 Round analysis Round sizing against milestones, dilution across rounds, valuation analysis for the round.
- 06 Grant budgets Budgets for grant and other non-dilutive funding applications.
Fractional CFO: reporting, with accounting in support
- 01 Reporting Monthly management and board reporting: KPIs, variance against budget, burn and runway. Investor reporting once the round has closed.
- 02 Accounting We run the monthly close where there is no finance function. Otherwise we work from the company's books, alongside its finance lead.
